Because the Filipino and American governments formally signed the improved Defense Cooperation Arrangement (EDCA) Monday, US Ambassador Philip Goldberg stated the forging of the newest initiative will significantly help within the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“It (EDCA) may also assistance the shared objective of advertising the long run modernization of the AFP and can assist the AFP preserve and create extra safety, maritime area consciousness and humanitarian help and catastrophe reduction abilities,” Goldberg said.
The Philippines and US governments signed the EDCA Monday, about ten a.m. in the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Commissioned Officers Club in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
And whilst the US is ready to assist the Philippines, the ambassador pressured the US government won’t make use of the EDCA to reopen American bases within the nation.
