The legal team of Vice President Leni Robredo is seeking ways to scrap an election protest against her because they are “afraid of the truth,” a lawyer of of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. said Sunday.
The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, affirmed last week that the election protest of Marcos, who is contesting his defeat to Robredo in the May 2016 elections, is sufficient in form and substance.
Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, slammed the looming motion, saying, “Despite the Tribunal’s ruling that this issue was already ‘beyond dispute’, Robredo’s legal team is still looking for ways to delay the proceedings.”
“Their actuations on the protest have been consistent: they are afraid of the truth because it would reveal how much they tarnished and debased the true will of the Filipino people in the Vice-Presidential race,” he added.
The Robredo camp, he said, “cheated” their way to the vice-presidency and wants to do so again by depriving Marcos of his day in court.
