“I am not allowed to not make any comments because it’s an ongoing investigation. I have been ordered by the Sheriff’s department in Santa Fe, I can not answer any questions about the investigation. I can’t. It’s an active investigation in terms of a woman dying. She was my friend,” he said.
“The day I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel the director,” he continued.
“We were a very, very well oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened. Now, I’ve been told multiple times don’t make any comments about the ongoing investigation and I can’t,” he said.
“I met with her husband Matthew and their son…the guy is overwhelmed with grief. There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time but nothing like this, this is a one in a trillion. He is in shock. He has a 9 year old son. We are in constant contact with him because we’re very worried about his family and his kid,” Alec said.
As for whether he’d work on another set involving firearms, he said: “I couldn’t answer that question. I do know an ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on films sets is something that I am extremely interested in. How many bullets have been fired in film sets in the last 75 years? This is America…nearly all of them without incident. What has to happen now is that when it does go wrong, and it’s this catastrophic thing, some new safety measures have to be in place. Plastic guns, rubber guns…that’s not for me to decide. It’s urgent that you understand I’m not an expert in this field,” he explained.
“So what other people decide is the best way to go to in order to protect people’s safety on film sets, I am all in favor of and will cooperate with in any way I can.”
When asked if he thought production would continue on the project, he said: “No I don’t.”
Here is the latest that we know about what was happening on the set.
