New details are emerging about the tragic incident that took place on the set of Rust last week.
On Tuesday (October 21), cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed after a prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin struck her. The actor was not aware the gun was loaded while he was rehearsing for a scene.
According to a new report in Variety, a crew member who worked with first assistant director Dave Halls on a previous film claims he warned producers about him being “cavalier” about set safety.

The outlet writes that Dave has previously told investigators that he failed to properly check a gun before it was handed to Alec Baldwin.
A crew member, who asked to remain anonymous, says that he worked with Dave on the film One Way, where he “witnessed an unsafe situation in which cars were being driven in an open field by local people who were not stunt drivers.”
“That man is a liability,” the crew member recalled saying. “He’s going to f–king kill someone someday, and you’re going to be responsible.”
Another crew member on One Way also claimed there were safety issues with Dave Halls and vehicles on set, citing a scene with a “car hit” that had inadequate crew and background actors driving cars rather than stunt drivers.
“They put me in a position of danger,” the second crew member told Variety. “They’re getting the bottom-of-the-barrel people.”
A third crew member also said that he had heard about safety problems and alleges that he witness Dave “lose his temper on set.”
A representative for the producers on the film shared a quote from One Way‘s line producer Molly Mayeux, who denied that there were safety issues on set.
“I can attest with 100% certainty that One Way was extremely safety-conscious, and all safety protocols were followed during the shoot,” Molly said. “I am sickened by these ‘sources’ trying to capitalize on such a horrific accident.”
She also denied that the crew member shared a warning about Dave Halls being a “liability.”
Variety notes that Dave was let go from the film Freedom’s Path after another reported incident with a gun going off unexpectedly took place.
Earlier this week, an electrician who worked on the movie revealed what happened on set that led to the shooting.
