Santa Fe Sheriff Responds to Alec Baldwin's Claim He Did Not Pull Trigger on 'Rust' Set

Alec Baldwin‘s primetime interview about the tragedy on the Rust set is set to air tonight on ABC.

If you missed the tragic news about the accident that happened on the set of Rust, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins passed away and director Joel Souza was hospitalized after a prop gun being used by Alec was misfired on set.

There’s one quote from his interview that has many people talking. Specifically, Alec says, “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger…I would never point a gun at them and pull a trigger, never.”

Now, the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department is responding to this claim.

“Guns don’t just go off,” Sheriff Adan Mendoza told Fox News. “So whatever needs to happen to manipulate the firearm, he did that and it was in his hands.”

Buzzfeed News dug a little further and did find out, “it is possible to fire the gun without intentionally pulling the trigger. If the hammer is back and cocked, it could only take a light touch or pull on the trigger to discharge the gun,” two veteran armorers in the industry said.

Another person on the Rust set has also claimed Alec did not pull the trigger.
