Johnny Depp's Attorney Makes Closing Argument in Amber Heard Defamation Case, Calls Her a 'Deeply Troubled Person'

Johnny Depp‘s legal team has made their closing argument in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

On Friday (May 27), the 58-year-old actor’s attorney Benjamin Chew claimed that the Aquaman star’s allegations of domestic abuse don’t make sense as he’s never been accused by any of his former partners.

“Before Amber Heard, no women ever… claimed Mr. Depp raised a hand to her in his 58 years,” he said. “This is MeToo without any MeToo.”

Mr. Chew went on to note that Johnny was a supporter of the MeToo movement, but said that the movement was intended for “true survivors of abuse.”

“Mr. Depp was canceled because Miss Heard falsely accused him of domestic violence,” he said.

He added that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was “no saint,” stating that Johnny “owns his flaws he admits to them, but he is not a violent abuser.”

The attorney said that while Johnny had admitted to having an addiction to drugs, “there is a world of difference between having substance abuse problems and being a physical abuser.”

Another attorney on Johnny‘s team, Camille Vasquez, suggested that it was the actor, not Amber, who was subjected to “persistent verbal, emotional and physical abuse.”

“There is a victim of domestic abuse in this courtroom, and it is not Miss Heard,” she told the jury, calling the scene at the courthouse a “set up” and claiming that Amber had organized press coverage to make sure photographers would take photos of her bruised face. Ms. Vasquez alleged that Amber had faked her injuries and that “the world only saw what she wanted them to see.”

“Exactly six years later, we ask you to give Mr. Depp his life back,” she said, adding that Amber‘s plan had been to “ruin him.”

Ms. Vasquez also played several clips of the former couple in the midst of an argument, in which Amber could be heard laughing and seemingly mocking her husband.

The attorney called Amber a “deeply troubled person” and insinuated that Amber had faked some of her more emotional moments on the stand, calling attention to the fact that when she cried, there were no tears.

Ms. Vasquez also cited a testimony from an acting coach who said Amber struggled to cry while acting. “It was a performance,” she said of Amber‘s time on the stand.
