Howard “Howie” Kleinberg has sadly passed away.
The Florida-based chef, who appeared on the third season of the cooking ompetition series Top Chef, died on July 22 at the age of 46. His mother, Susan, told the Miami Herald that he died of a heart attack.

“I am just finding out how many lives he touched,” she told the outlet. “He was married to his passion in life, which was his cooking.”
The Top Chef team paid tribute to Howie on social media, writing on Twitter: “The #TopChef family is saddened to learn about the unexpected passing of Howard Kleinberg from season three. Howie‘s passion for cooking filled so many and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.”
Howie placed seventh in Top Chef: Miami and went on to open his own restaurant, Bulldog Barbecue. He later was a chef at Smokey Bones and The Anderson.
His obituary states that he is survived by his mother, his stepfather, his sister and her children. Our thoughts are with Howie‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
