Prince William Says Walking Behind Queen Elizabeth's Coffin Brought Back Memories of Doing Same For Princess Diana

Prince William, Prince of Wales said that memories of walking behind his mother Princess Diana‘s coffin resurfaced as he did the same for his grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen passed away at the age of 96, and the royal family has been honoring her memory ever since.

Plans for the Queen’s death, called Operation London Bridge, entailed a procession behind her coffin. Prince William partook in that and walked alongside his brother Prince Harry.

He told a mourner that doing so “brought back memories,” according to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah.

“He said how difficult it was yesterday and how it reminded him of his mum’s funeral,” a mourner told The Telegraph. Another added that Prince William warned them that he would cry if they started.

Catherine [Princess of Wales] said it’s just been such a difficult time for all of them, for the whole family,” the first source said.

Princess Diana passed away in 1997 when Prince William was 15 and Prince Harry was 12. The young brothers honored their mother in the same way, though reports suggest that they did not want to join in such a public form of mourning, according to Page Six.

“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, that walk,” Prince William said of the experience in 2017, according to People. “It felt like she was almost walking along beside us to get us through it.”

Both Prince William and Prince Harry have spoken about their memories of her.

This week he and Catherine, Princess of Wales (more commonly known as Kate Middleton) took on their first solo appearance since assuming their new royal titles. They were previously the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
