Queen Elizabeth II, who turned 96 years old this past April, has tragically passed away, the royal family confirmed.
News of her death comes just after the Palace confirmed her health was “concerning” and members of the royal family had rushed to her side as she rested at Balmoral in Scotland.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the Palace announced on Twitter.
“Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” the palace released in a statement earlier in the day on Thursday (September 8). “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
Queen Elizabeth took the throne in 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI. The Queen ruled longer than any other Monarch in British history.
She leaves behind her children Prince Charles, who will be the next King, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Prince Andrew. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, including Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie, as well as many great-grandchildren including Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s kids, Archie and Lilibet (who is named after the Queen).
Her husband, Prince Philip, passed away on April 9, 2021 and a smaller funeral was held for him as the COVID-19 pandemic was still a cause for concern.
The Queen’s health had been a cause for concern over the past few months after she had canceled events and appearances.
Our thoughts are with the royal family, the Queen’s loved ones, and the citizens of the UK and all around the world as her death is mourned by millions.
