Jennie is continuing to find her footing as a solo artist after breaking out of her YG Entertainment contract along with the rest of her BLACKPINK group members.
However, Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé – the four members of BLACKPINK – have chosen to extend their record with the giant K-pop label for solo activities.
All We Know About Jennie’s New Contract With Columbia Records
Columbia Records is home to some of your favorite artists, including Beyoncé, Harry Styles, BTS, Halsey, Miley Cyrus, Pharell Williams, Shakira and many others. Didn’t I tell you that they were home to some of your favorite artists?
Well, now they’ve managed to snag one more in the way of BLACKPINK’s Jennie, who inked a contract with the company in partnership with her record label and entertainment company ODDATELIER. The signing was announced on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Columbia Records announced the news on their official Instagram channel, writing, “We are family,” as caption to pictures of Jennie and her name boldly written in white across a red background.
Her October release will be her first solo release this year. Last year, she teamed up with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp to perform the song, “One of the Girls.”
Serving as an original soundtrack for the HBO drama, ‘The Idol,’ the song has been streamed more than a billion times on Spotify alone and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA; it also peaked at No. 18 on Billboard‘s Pop Airplay chart.
In October, she followed this up with her solo release, “You & Me.” The song debuted at number one on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, proving her marketability as a solo artist and her enduring influence in the entertainment industry.
She also achieved a rare feat, as she became the second BLACKPINK member to hit No. 1 on the survey after Rosé’s “On the Ground.”
She kicked off this year with collaborative singles with the likes of Matt Champion and ZICO.
