The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) bristles every time her rediscovered cousin’s name is mentioned.
The seemingly impossible pairing of Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is real, and Summer dislikes that match as much or more than her grandfather.
But Summer is far more discrete than Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). He’s told Claire and anyone who’ll listen that Kyle is all wrong for her. Yet, as Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) pointed out, his dad thinks that Summer and Kyle are okay.
Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) is the only factor in this triangle that can ease tensions. He recognizes Claire as a trusted friend but knows that Summer is his mother.
Devoted fans know that Harrison rarely mentions his birth mother, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) anymore, with that part of his backstory gone like his adopted father, Ashland Locke (Robert Newman).
Summer Newman Stepped Up Big Time
Summer didn’t think less of Kyle when it was revealed that he had a son through a married woman, Tara. Instead, Summer’s love for Kyle allowed her to embrace Harrison, who was then known by his last name Locke.
Kyle and Summer’s on-again, off-again relationship included a forced first marriage. But their second union was real and appeared sustainable until it wasn’t.
Mealor’s character decided that Summer’s concealment of her mother’s faked death was grounds for separation and then divorce. Devoted fans of the genre know that the storyline was used to split Summer and Kyle.
Chance Chancellor In The Background
Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) came to care for Summer. It appeared she’d moved on with him, but she lost trust in Chance when he had to investigate Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), who was being framed by Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) for Heather Stevens’ (Vail Bloom) murder.
The writing staff created an out for Summer as it had for Kyle. While Chance and Summer moderately patched up their rift, this couple feels destined not to revive or survive.
So, if Chance is out, then Kyle becomes option one again. Of course, Kyle was likely always number one in Summer’s heart because he divorced her. She was stunned when he opted to end their marriage and has effectively covered the hurt she endured.
Claire Newman Is A Street Fighter
Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) was a bad influence on her great-niece. However, one could offer the villain a backhanded compliment and claim that she taught Claire how to be a street fighter.
Claire is inexperienced in love and relationships, which puts her at a major disadvantage with Summer. Plus, Victor is backing Summer in what is shaping up to be a fight.
Yet, if Kyle wants Claire, then that’s where his focus will stay. Summer will need to fight smart and hope the Kyle and Claire show eventually collapses of its own weight.
