The Young and the Restless spoilers document that the man who appears to be a master of deception, Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins), is also an egomaniac.
His decision to accept Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) offer to return to Genoa City, Wisconsin, indicates unchecked arrogance.
Jack wouldn’t allow his sister to fly to Paris, France. Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) agreed, telling Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) that Jack’s lure might work.
So, Martin is set to fly to GC and prepare to wed his fiance at the updated Abbott mansion. Traci is beside herself, still hoping that Alan Laurent (Cousins in a dual role) is the man she’s come to love. But all indications appear to point in the darker storyline direction.
Updated Abbott Mansion Setting Makes Sense
It felt unusual when Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) suddenly began talking about changing the Abbott mansion. Doing so after Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) built a nearly identical replica Ranch house made hardcore Y&R fans smile broadly.
The soap world is built on viewer loyalty. The bond that is painstakingly developed between generational audiences, actors, characters, and beloved sets is well-known.
So, the living room, staircase, and dining room of the late John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) home have remained the same since it was first seen decades ago. There is no reason to change that specific location, as Jack not so eloquently told his wife.
But it makes sense now that fans know a baited wedding will be held at the revised Abbott mansion.
Sharon Newman And Phyllis Summers Turn The Tables
Martin kidnapped Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) for a strange reason. The GC Police Department tapped him to hypnotize Sharon when Ian Ward (Ray Wise) told Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) to manipulate her medication.
So, Martin took what he learned about Sharon’s life and decided to test whether a human experiment could lead to conflict resolution with Phyllis.
Sharon appeared to have killed Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) and dumped her body. She didn’t kill Heather and was under the influence of psychedelic drugs when handling Heather’s body after Ian killed her.
Sharon did admit to framing Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) for Heather’s murder, but that happened while Jordan took charge of the meds.
Just as Traci put the pieces together, so are Sharon and Phyllis, destined to realize what Martin did to them. That won’t go well for him following that reveal.
Traci Abbott Deserves Far Better
It’s genuinely sad that Traci was fooled and is being tortured. She deserves so much better, as viewers who have followed her backstory for any length of time know so well.
There appears to be no realistic expectation of this matter being resolved. Viewers know that whether it is Martin or his identical twin who survived and is just as wacky, he kidnapped Sharon and Phyllis as part of an experiment.
Having Cousins’ character knowingly wrong Traci, Sharon, and Phyllis makes him genuinely terrible. At least Sharon and Phyllis aren’t in love with the guy. But Traci is, and the shock she’s realized will be followed by a lengthy period of hurt. Hopefully, the writing staff will create better days ahead for her.
