The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) troubles have grown exponentially. Her ongoing conversations with Ian Ward (Ray Wise) are both troubling and confusing for the audience.
Viewers last saw Mariah at the mental health facility in Boston, Massachusetts. They knew that Copeland got married toward the end of last year and took some time off, which included a honeymoon trip. So, Grimes’ sporadic appearances were expected and understandable.
However, one element of Mariah’s evolving storyline has been strange. Why project an apparent image of Ian from her head to facilitate the kidnapping story?
Ian Ward Isn’t Dead In Daytime
Ward is one of the great character actors of his generation. He’s played Ian since 2014 and earned a Daytime Emmy award in 2015.
Viewers initially learned that he tormented Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) decades before his reappearance in her life and tried to pass himself off as Dylan McAvoy’s (Steve Burton) true father. That was a lie, with Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) maintaining that title.
When last seen in Genoa City, Wisconsin, Ian was initially believed to have died after a confrontation with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) at the Ranch. But Ian awoke in the back of the medical vehicle that was taking him to the morgue.

Mariah Copeland Conjured Her Nemesis Into Existence
Fans weren’t told anything about Ian since the referenced point in the plot above. Yet, Mariah appears to have conjured him into existence.
So, two plot points are seemingly true. Ian is alive but is not physically present with Mariah. Instead, she’s used the memory of the man who raised her in a cult and married her while she was unconscious, during another one of Ian’s returns, as a means to plot the kidnapping.
Devoted viewers recall that Mariah agreed to be the surrogate who carried Devon Winters’ (Bryton James) and Abby Newman Winters’ (Melissa Ordway) baby years before James’ and Ordway’s characters were interested in each other or were married.
Devon Winters And Abby Newman Winters Are Frantic
It’s been a while since viewers saw the interior of the most fabled setting on this show. Devon, Abby, and Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark) live at the Chancellor mansion.
Any couple would panic when their only child suddenly went missing, as the search for the recast version on the grounds of the estate of Dominic didn’t result in him being found. Soon enough, they’ll know that Mariah was the culprit.
An extended tale lies ahead because of the serious mental health issues Mariah is facing, the family drama that’s been created, and the legal dilemma that now exists. Additionally, viewers can wonder if Ian has been lurking in GC and will reappear for real as Mariah’s kidnapping ploy plays on.
