The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) never anticipated that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) would go gangster. But viewers know that Cane’s perception of reality is off.
Victor hasn’t kidnapped Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and the twins. Instead, he had Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) locate the locations of Cane’s cherished loved ones.
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) was clued into the ruse late in the game, without Victor’s knowledge. She told Adam that Lily must be told what Victor’s plan was and persuaded to go along with it.
Victor Newman Made The First Great Mistake
Cane planned last summer’s disaster. He owned the three deaths that happened, and Lily was not impressed.
But Cane didn’t follow through with Colin Atkinson’s (Tristan Rogers) goal. He didn’t use the artificial intelligence weapon Arabesque developed because Lily got him to agree to give it to her.
But Lily never had the chance to destroy the AI program because Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) stole it. She offered it to Victor, who gleefully took it with a verbal promise to allow her to head Jabot once he owned it.
That was the first great mistake. Victor’s unquenchable thirst for revenge against Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) caused that unforced error and eventually led to his losing Newman Enterprises.
Lily Winters Holds Major Sway
Viewers know that Khalil left the cast on maternity leave. The birth of her second child means that she’ll likely be away into the spring or possibly summer.
So, the need to write Lily out of Genoa City, Wisconsin, created the break between her and Cane. This two-time married couple had gotten close, but Lily couldn’t stomach Flynn’s character being aligned with Phyllis, either professionally or personally.
Cane’s lack of discipline caused him to circle back to Phyllis and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). He got his takeover crew back together and feels there’s nothing to lose since Lily and their children rejected him.
All should go well for Victor, assuming Lily goes along with Victor’s kidnapping plan.
Artificial Intelligence Tool Needs To Break
Enough with this AI storyline, right?
It’s understood that soap operas have long mined current topics, inserting them into daytime to attract interest. It makes sense that Y&R used artificial intelligence and set this emerging technology up as the force of doom that could overtake any human being in GC.
But having Cane take over Newman Enterprises and do it with Phyllis stretches suspension of disbelief to the max. It can break soon and may have already for some viewers.
Here’s hoping that Cane complies with Victor’s demand or that Newman Enterprises returns to the Moustache’s hands in the near future somehow. It seems unfathomable for Victor not to be the head of this famous Wisconsin town, and to have a returned, recast character like Cane be its king, with Phyllis as the queen, is rather preposterous.
Yet, Victor has warned Cane and Phyllis about their eventual downfalls and is now playing hardball like he’s a gangster. Possibly, his enemies are toppled by the spring thaw at the very latest.
