The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) is getting the help that she needs. But what type of punishment should she receive as the perpetrator of multiple crimes against a child?
Anything could have gone wrong while Mariah was taking Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark) on a delusional ride across the country. As a very distracted driver, a crash was more likely.
Dom was getting close to bolting from being held against his will. Doing so obviously would have put that young boy in even greater danger than he was.
Soft-Pedaling Put Mariah Copeland Where She Is Now
Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) has significant experience dealing with and overcoming mental health issues. It’s reasonable to say that Mariah’s genetic connection to her mother is a partial reason why she’s endured periods of instability.
However, Mariah was stolen at birth and raised in a cult that was led by Ian Ward (Ray Wise). The so-called Path that Grimes’ character was citing was the name of his bogus organization.
Mariah’s decision to check herself into a clinic in Boston, Massachusetts, was proactive. She could feel herself slipping and wanted to realize healthy solutions. Sharon, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks), and others fully supported her efforts to get better.

Embracing Ian Ward Was A Symptom
Believing that Ian was physically present and speaking to her was not the problem. It was a symptom of the depths to which Mariah’s mind sank.
One of the areas of this storyline that remains somewhat clouded is the business trip Mariah took last year. During that jaunt for Cassidy First, she encountered a man.
Will Hensley (Michael Swan) reminded Mariah of Ian, and that apparently led to all that followed, which felt and still feels like a stretch. Plus, viewers know that Ian isn’t dead as everyone in Genoa City, Wisconsin, believes him to be.
So, that created a questionable basis to inject Wise’s character into this significant tale. Unless Will was put in Mariah’s path, wink intended, by Ian to destabilize her, then it was an unusual plot choice to make.
Devon Winters And Abby Newman Winters Offer Grace
Devon Winters (Bryton James) and Abby Newman Winters (Melissa Ordway) were naturally relieved to find their son. They also skillfully handled his comments and questions about being with Mariah.
They offered major grace to Mariah and might press for leniency in her regard, with mental health treatment instead of jail time sought. That would be best for all involved, especially considering her backstory that includes how she helped them help Dom be in the world.
Dom is a smart young man who knew something was wrong. His pressing Mariah helped to slow her down, and that allowed the authorities to track them. Now, the goal is for everyone to heal, including Mariah, who committed criminal acts because she wasn’t mentally healthy. That factor matters, particularly in this case.
