One Louisville family turned a tragic loss in a UPS plane crash into something very inspiring. Somehow, they went from almost unimaginable pain to discovering “purpose growing from tragedy.” Read on for more details, especially if you think you’re having a bad day.

A Tragic Accident

It’s been four months since a “fateful day” when a UPS plane crash took 15 lives. This week, Shirlene Fairdale opened up to WLKY News about the two people she loved most. Sadly, in the crash, the Louisville mom lost her dad, Lou Fedon , who she called her “superhero.” And, she dealt with the extreme pain of losing her “only child,” Kimberly Asa. As you can imagine, her entire world shattered in an instant.

Everyone grieves in their own way, and getting to grips with death isn’t easy. It takes time, and honestly, the loss still “doesn’t feel real” for her. However, like many devastated folks, she looks for comfort where she can. In her case, she holds tight to the fact that her dad and her daughter “left this earth together.” As she put it, “I know that, you know, she’s okay being with him.”

Treasuring The Memories

Beyond the story of incredible loss, the family refused to let the tragedy end in “just sadness.” Shirlene Fairdale related how they treasure the memory of Kimberly Asa “praying by herself” the day before the crash.

That memory almost seems so special that it’s “sacred” to them. So Shirlene’s brother, Ethan, decided that “faith needed feet.” Next thing, he went ahead and launched the Ace of Love Foundation. Basically, it became their “mission statement” about moving forward without their loved ones.

Reaching Out To Others

Already, the foundation following the UPS plane crash does good work. One thing they achieve is hosting “faith based events for single moms.” Fittingly, they held their first one on what would have been “Kimberly’s fourth birthday.”

Naturally, Shirlene admitted that the “pain is still fresh,” for sure. But, having “direction” for all that grief changes everything for her. By helping others, she feels like she’s making sure “Lou’s helping hand and Kimberly’s quiet faith are still moving in this world.”

What stood out the most, is that everyone might hope that while “grief doesn’t break your heart,” it definitely “reshapes you.”

Viewers React

In the comments section of the video on YouTube, plenty of people wanted to say something. One of them penned, “There’s a special place in heaven for those who transmute their loss and grief into hope, healing, support and change for others.”
