Collin Gosselin finally set a release date and unveiled the cover for his tell-all book. He had teased the project last year. This week, several websites covered the updated news. The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum dished that his book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, drops on October 13.
The Book Cover Dropped
US Weekly reported that the 21-year-old son of Kate Gosselin and her ex, Jon, dropped the update on his Instagram. Fans already know that he had a difficult life, so it’s no surprise that he kept the contents of the book locked down for years.
After the 21-year-old broke the news on social media, they cited him as saying, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life.”

Later, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum told the outlet, “Now, finally, I’m sharing what was really happening behind the scenes.”
Behind The Cover
The publisher, Grand Central Publishing, is already teasing a heavy read. The book’s description says the memoir deals with “the dark side of fame.”
It also promises to share “the truth about being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for many years and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy.”
That’s a whole lot of trauma to unpack for a Tuesday book release.
According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Collin Gosselin also told fans back in October that the book would include “proof” about his childhood financials.
He previously claimed on a TikTok Live that the transcripts support allegations that money he earned from the family’s TLC shows was taken without his consent.
Kate hasn’t commented on the upcoming book. But Collin’s dad, Jon Gosselin, immediately shared the book cover and a preorder link on his social media. He did that to support his son.
A Long Road to This Release
This official announcement followed months of speculation that started last year. Collin Gosselin first dropped hints about a book in August 2025 during a TikTok livestream.
Fans flooded him with supportive messages at the time. One person wrote, “Can’t wait to support your book! You deserve all the success and love.”
By September, Collin confirmed that drafting was officially underway. He had finalized details with his team. He noted on Instagram that he felt grateful for the chance to write his very first book.
Collin spent years dealing with the fallout from his childhood. When he was 12, Kate placed him in a mental health facility. She cited behavioral issues and “special needs.”
Collin and Jon always denied those claims. Instead, Collin has alleged that Kate sent him away to hide what he describes as physical and emotional abuse.
Plus, he alleged that the abuse included being locked in a basement with his hands and feet zip-tied.
Jon eventually won sole custody of Collin and his sister Hannah in 2018. The other siblings stayed with Kate.
Fractured Family Ties
While the book may offer some catharsis, Collin still appears estranged from most of his family apart from his sister, Hannah.
From the outside looking in, relationships with his twin sisters, Mady and Cara, and the rest of the sextuplets still appear strained.
Not long ago, he dropped a throwback pic on TikTok and talked about his broken relationships with his brothers and sisters.
At the time, he said, “I very much wish that we did [talk] and that they knew who I actually was because we don’t know each other at all.”
Time will tell if the siblings of Collin Gosselin actually pick up a copy in October.
