Collin Gosselin is unleashing it all, and it seems he’s not willing to bite back any ugly detail. Even before receiving his memoir, titled ‘In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,’ which is set to drop this October, he’s already shocking us with stories from his childhood.
The reality TV star previously claimed that he was isolated from his siblings by his mother.
Now, he believes it might have been his rebellious streak that officially won him a ticket to lonely town.
Collin Gosselin On Why His Mother Sent Him To A Behavioral Facility At Age 12
Collin Gosselin was born in a family with 8 children, as one of sextuplets.
His parents, Jon and Kate Gosselin, share 25-year-old twins, Collin and his fellow 22-year-old sextuplets. Prior to their divorce, the couple gained a wide fandom for appearing on the reality TV show ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8.’
In a September 2025 chat with The US Sun, he accused his mother of being “physically aggressive” and “verbally, very abusive.” This is a claim that his mother has widely denied and hinted she would sue him for if the laws on “defamation” were that simple.
“Even as a 12-year-old, before I was sent away, I could start to consider both sides of things,” Collin told the US Sun in the interview, which was now just published in its entirety, adding that he “really could look at things in retrospect.”
“And I was stubborn enough to question my mom,” he continued. “I questioned her about everything, and that came before the rebellion of me not wanting to be on camera and be a part of her circus,” he said, probably referencing his mother’s push for “Kate Plus 8” after her 2009 divorce from her husband.
“That questioning led to me later not wanting to be on camera, and that really killed her.”
Prior to his mother’s decision to institutionalize him, she had custody of the 8 children. But right after, Collin would decide to go live with his father, with fellow sextuplet Hannah following suit shortly after.
“I don’t know what reason it was, whether it was her reputation she was saving by sending me away from home, or whether it was the fact that maybe it’s easier to sign a work permit for seven children that are voluntary, instead of seven children that are voluntary and one that’s involuntary,” Collin said during the interview, claiming that there “are a lot of things to question there.”
Recounting his time at the institution, he claimed that his mother had only made time for one visit, which lasted for about 20 minutes. P
er Collin, she spent the whole time “blaming him.”
Collin said it was “about a year of me being there, and the whole time I had these glasses on and tears coming down my face.”
Collin further recalled being “overweight,” “sick,” and “on medications” at the time.
He claimed his mother accused him of breaking up her family, and going as far as to insinuate “that my siblings want nothing to do with me.”
Kate had checked Collin in at the facility in 2016, over claims that he had “unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards” family members.
