He couldn’t help himself after telling Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) the big news.
More than half-century-old documents appear to prove that John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) estate can call in a long-ago loan that was made to Chancellor Industries.
So, rather than wait until all legal due diligence was squared, Billy opted to tell Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) that Chancellor was his.
That’s not the full truth, as it could actually become the property of Jabot once various legal issues are settled, which could take a while.
Katherine Chancellor’s Remarkable History
As with many corporations, name variations occur over time. The company that Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) inherited from her first husband, Gary Reynolds (a character who was only ever referenced because he died before Y&R debuted in 1973), was rebranded as Chancellor Industries due to her second husband, Phillip Chancellor II (Donnelly Rhodes).
Phillip died in one of what remains as one of the most storied endings in this show’s history.
Katherine, who was in the throes of a battle with alcoholism, picked her husband up at the airport in her car and intended on killing them both because he was involved with Jill Foster (then played by Brenda Dickson).
Phillip planned to divorce Katherine and marry Jill, who years later became Jill Abbott when marrying John, who are Billy’s parents. So, Katherine swerved off the road and created a terrible accident.
1970s Implications Reverberate Through Genoa City
Katherine survived the accident, but Phillip died shortly thereafter, which established a monumental rivalry with Jill, who was pregnant with a boy at the time.
She named him Phillip Chancellor III (last played by Thom Bierdz). Of course, his son, Phillip Chancellor IV (Conner Floyd), died last year during Cane’s ill-fated gathering in France.
Phillip IV’s mother is Nina Webster (Tricia Cast), who has just returned to Genoa City, Wisconsin.
This recurring character’s presence helps to provide context and helps to honor the storied history of all that happened.
Billy has truly unearthed one of the deepest parts of Y&R’s history, which devoted and new fans surely appreciate.
The reverberations may result in control of Chancellor being shifted from Winters Incorporated, which recently received it from Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
Audra Charles Is In The Know
Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) is visiting her sister in Los Angeles, California. Crossover fans of The Bold and The Beautiful can wonder if Hope’s character will reappear on what was her original show.
Meanwhile, Sally’s business partner at Spectra-Charles is keeping an eye on matters in GC. Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) has created a troublesome reputation for herself since arriving in recent years.
The sight of her and Billy drinking at the Genoa City Athletic Club is eyebrow-raising. He probably isn’t foolish enough to go beyond relaying the secret that’s been uncovered, but this is Billy.
Hopefully, he and Audra don’t extend their talk to something impulsively romantic.
But even if they don’t, she will relay the details of what he mentioned to Sally, his fiancée who is pregnant with his child, and that will set up drama upon her return.
