The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki’s Guilt – Did Her Own Addiction Doom Nick From The Start?

The Young and the Restless

that Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is holding it together on the outside. Barely. Underneath her face of stone, she’s quietly falling apart.

Watching her son spiral into addiction means watching the worst part of herself play out all over again. Except this time it’s not about her and her messed up life. It’s Nick’s.

A Lie Built On Love, And Guilt

Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) was devastated that his relapse brought his parents back from their honeymoon in Venice early. So Nikki lied. She told him she and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) went back and finished the trip.

However, in reality they rushed home the second they heard what was happening. It’s a small fib, the kind meant to protect someone, not hurt them.

But Nikki knows better than anyone that recovery runs on honesty. She just handed her addict son a lie to hold onto. That’s not nothing. Surely there are repercussions to something like this.

The Question Nikki Can’t Say Out Loud

Here’s what’s really keeping Nikki up at night. It’s not just the lie. It’s the bigger, uglier question underneath it.

Did she pass this down? Nikki’s own battle with alcoholism has haunted her for decades, a war she’s fought and clawed her way back from more times than she probably wants to remember.

The Young and The Restless: Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow)

Now she’s watching her son fight the same war. Surely, she can’t shake the feeling that she handed him the disease. Genetics, environment, generational trauma, whatever you want to call it, Nikki’s terrified she didn’t just survive her addiction. She passed it forward.

Reassurance Only Goes So Far

Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) has tried to talk her down. She insists Nick’s struggle isn’t her fault, that addiction doesn’t work like that. But guilt rarely listens to logic, especially a mother’s guilt, and in a family that’s already carrying so much.

Nikki built her entire identity around holding this family together through disaster after disaster. If she starts to believe she’s the reason trouble keeps finding Nick, that’s not something Victoria can talk her out of.

That’s something she’ll have to sit with, alone. And every other time Nick relapses again. Though, we hope it’s not again.

What do you think? Is Nikki carrying blame that isn’t hers to carry, or is there real truth buried in her fear? Share your thoughts and remember to keep watching to see what happens next.
