On Nov. 1, All Saints’ Day, visits to the cemeteries were prohibited due to the C0’VID-19 pandemic.
For some, they lost loved ones while inside their homes on that day.
Instead of just remembering those who had passed away.
Just like this father who lost his son and his wife and daughter are still missing until now.
Salvador Manrique tried his best to hold on to his five-year-old son Samuel as fl00dwaters, v0lcanic rocks and mudfl0ws lashed their house in Barangay San Francisco in Guinobatan, Albay as Super Typh00n Rolly battered the Bicol region on Sunday, Nov. 1.
“”Palikas na talaga kami, tinangay na kami ng alon. Dito ‘yung mga anak ko, ‘Kapit sa akin,’ [sabi ko] ‘kaya natin to’. [Humambalos] ‘yung malakas na tubig, may kasamang bato. Nakahiwa-hiwalay kami,” Salvador shared.
But the current proved too strong for the father and son. Samuel has swept away. Manrique had the tragic task of identifying in a Facebook post the body of a young boy found in Oas town, 25 kilometers away from their village, as his son. His wife Elvie, 50, and daughter Michaela, 18, remained missing as of Monday, Nov. 2.
It was All Saints’ Day and people were prohibited from going to the cemeteries to pay respects to their departed loved ones to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019. Evacuation efforts were also underway in areas that were expected to be hit by Rolly. Nov. 2 is All Souls’ Day.
Salvador does not lose hope that he will be able to be with his missing wife and daughter.
“Sabi ko nga sana buhay, wala pang nakukuha na ba’ngkay,” he quipped.
It is so heartbreaking. Hoping that they’ll be reunited anytime soon.
