Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Matt revealed that he was offered a role in the new iterations of the popular sci-fi franchise.
“We were close to me being in it, but then it just never quite happened,” he says, sounding a bit bummed about it.
Matt went on to explain that he had multiple meetings to discuss a role in The Rise of Skywalker movie, but hadn’t shot anything for it. The meetings actually never got to a costume fitting either, but he did have details about the role, which Matt described as “big.”
Josh then asked Matt if the role was of Emperor Palpatine’s son, which would make him Rey’s father, he remained tight-lipped about it.
“I could not possibly say,” he said. “I could not possibly say, but it was a pretty groovy thing. Like, it was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing. Pretty big — it was like a big story detail, like a transformative Star Wars story detail. But it never quite got over the line.”
