Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: How Shawn’s Shooting Triggers JJ’s Deep Emotional Crisis

Days Of Our Lives: Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer)

Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates tease that Shawn Brady’s (Brandon Beemer) shooting as JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss) froze up will trigger PTSD and a deep emotional crisis for JJ. He already feels guilty for Shawn getting shot while the two were taking down Klaus Mueller (Bassel Alzaro).

Is JJ Headed For Another Downward Spiral?

Last week, JJ and Shawn had a close call with Vivian Alamain’s (Louise Sorel) henchman, Klaus Mueller. Just as Klaus was about to shoot Liam Selejko (Hank Northrop), JJ arrived on the scene but froze, putting both their lives at risk. Fortunately, Shawn intervened and saved them.

However, it appears JJ may be teetering on the edge of a downward spiral; one can’t help but wonder if he will resort to alcohol or pills like he has in the past, or perhaps even something worse from his history of spiraling. We’re set to explore what lies ahead for JJ.

JJ Is In A State Of Shock

Currently, JJ is in a state of shock; meanwhile, Shawn is seriously injured, but the silver lining is that he will recover. He’s receiving treatment in the hospital following the confrontation and double shooting involving Klaus-the good news is that Shawn seems to have dealt with the dreadful Klaus.

However, we might soon witness JJ’s descent after failing to safeguard his partner and cousin, Shawn-additionally, JJ nearly stood by as Liam was shot during the standoff.

Although he was hurt, it wasn’t life-threatening. Honestly, this situation may have been foreshadowed by the numerous hints dropped during JJ and Theo Carver’s (Tyler Joseph Andrews) recent interactions and discussions over the past few months.

JJ Felt Like He’d Come To A Good Place In Life

You know, JJ felt he was in a good place in life; he was enrolled in sensitivity training courses. He was attending counseling as part of his recovery from the trauma of shooting Theo Carver years ago.

And of course, he has since forgiven JJ and accepted that he’s okay with him being back on the force; Theo, you know, mentioned that.

So, a bit of background for those who might not know, or may not remember, or perhaps are newer. About eight years ago, rookie cop JJ Deveraux shot Theo while he was escaping from a break-in scene wearing a hoodie-Theo had been brought in to do some hacking.

JJ Accidentally Shot Theo, And Fell Into A Deep Depression

JJ was heartbroken when he realized he had shot Theo; back then, after the incident, JJ found himself on the edge of suicide. He even penned farewell letters to all his loved ones and gave away all his belongings.

Furthermore, he ended his relationship with his then-girlfriend, Lani Price (Sal Stowers), due to the overwhelming guilt he was experiencing. JJ was also facing suspension and charges from the Salem Police Department. He simply couldn’t bear it any longer-then, on Christmas Eve 2017, JJ checked into a hotel with the intention of overdosing.

Gabi To The Rescue

Nevertheless, Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) had this instinct, a strong intuition, that JJ was in need of assistance. She arrived just in time to intervene and prevent him from going further down a dark path.

Gabi then chose to spend the night with JJ, providing him with support as he navigated through his profound depression and the lowest point in his life.

Gradually, things started to improve for JJ, who decided to pursue a career as a paramedic. Shortly after, Theo emerged from his coma-it was Christmas Day 2017, but he faced the challenge of paralysis and a lengthy recovery journey ahead.

Theo Learned To Walk Again And Initially Forgave JJ

Eventually, Theo regained the ability to walk. He was at a specialized rehabilitation facility in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he forgave JJ for his grave error.

Subsequently, Theo relocated there, and the two became not only roommates but also business partners in South Africa.

Recently, Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) returned Theo from South Africa to oversee DiMera Enterprises, and he was taken aback to discover that JJ had returned to Salem and resumed his position with the Salem PD. In case you forgot, JJ was heartbroken after his girlfriend’s betrayal.

When Theo Returned, He Tried To Get Jada To Fire JJ

That’s the reason he returned to town ahead of Theo; meanwhile, Theo attempted to persuade top cop Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) to dismiss JJ, sharing details about the shooting incident.

However, Jada firmly maintained that JJ was a competent officer, actively participating in required classes and receiving counseling to ensure he could perform his duties effectively.

Now, Theo and JJ have finally rebuilt their trust, even celebrating St. Patrick’s Day together at the Brady Pub with those vibrant green spritzers.

But the situation shifted when JJ returned to the pub, having forgotten something while sitting with Theo. And if you’ve been watching, you  know where he went from there.

JJ Caught Up With Shawn, And The Two Went After Klaus

It was then that JJ encountered Shawn, and they took a moment to catch up. Suddenly, Shawn received a notification that Klaus had been seen in the warehouse district.

Without hesitation, JJ and Shawn dashed out of the Brady Pub, determined to track down the criminal. Meanwhile, Klaus had cornered Liam, brandishing his gun, ready to eliminate Liam to ensure he couldn’t link Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) to the DiMera kidnappings. But JJ arrived just in time, stepping in front of Liam as Klaus took aim at him.

JJ Froze Up With A PTSD Flashback

And then JJ completely froze; he was suddenly overwhelmed by a flashback of the night he nearly killed Theo while on duty. That moment of hesitation allowed Klaus the opportunity to fire, resulting in a bullet grazing Liam’s arm. Just then, Shawn arrived and jumped in front of both JJ and Liam, right as Klaus was preparing to shoot.

Shawn and Klaus exchanged gunfire simultaneously; meanwhile, Liam, understandably terrified, took off running. Both Klaus and Shawn were shot, and JJ stood there in shock-eventually, he snapped out of it and called for assistance.

This Could Cost JJ Everything Again

This series of events could potentially cost JJ everything once again. JJ and Shawn may both be on leave while Jada conducts an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The last time JJ fired his weapon in the line of duty was during the incident with Theo, which nearly drove him to suicide.

Now, with his cousin Shawn fortunate to be alive, JJ’s freezing up is undoubtedly a significant factor in Shawn’s shooting. This time, the guilt JJ feels will be different because he did nothing; he didn’t fire his weapon. He didn’t act as he was trained to do.

Three Ended Up Shot, Although Only The Bad Guy Died-Will JJ Spiral To Drugs Again?

Three individuals ended up with gunshot wounds- Liam sustained a very minor injury, Shawn has a more serious one, and Klaus appears to be taking a dirt nap at this moment. We can see JJ turning to alcohol or drugs to numb the pain once again; if you recall, JJ struggled with substance abuse right after high school. Additionally, he’s currently single, which adds to his loneliness, leaving no one to notice the warning signs.

His parents are on the other side of the country, but fortunately, he isn’t living alone. And of course, the opportunity with Gabi passed a while back when JJ suspected she was responsible for shooting EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel).

Gabi May See The Signs And Take Action, Or Julie Might

But perhaps Gabi  will recognize these same warning signs and take action; hopefully, Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) will keep a close watch on JJ since he’s family and residing in the Horton house.

However, Julie has a lot on her plate-so, we’ll have to wait and see. This situation could become awkward for both JJ and Julie, especially since she’s tutoring Liam.

Moreover, we know that Theo isn’t pleased with Liam’s presence because he was his high school bully. To be fair, the petty criminal Liam did apologize for his involvement in the DiMera kidnappings, which Theo was also caught up in.
