General Hospital has made an unexpected casting shake-up as Daniel Cosgrove is temporarily unable to appear as Ezra Boyle, with actor Patrick Scott Lewis stepping into the role for select episodes beginning March 2.
Recast Due to Travel Disruption
A severe winter storm in late January disrupted travel across the East Coast, grounding thousands of flights and preventing Cosgrove — who is based on the East Coast — from flying to the Los Angeles-area studio to tape his scenes.
Because of the show’s tight shooting schedule, General Hospital producers turned to Patrick Scott Lewis to keep the storyline on track.
Who Is Patrick Scott Lewis?
Lewis isn’t new to General Hospital fans. He previously appeared on the show in a 2024 episode as a guest character named Mr. Thomas, who interacted with Kai Taylor and Trina Robinson in an amusing scene.

Outside daytime drama, Lewis has acting credits on shows like Cold Case, Castle, and more recently Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
Temporary Role, Same Character
The temporary recast covers at least two episodes — the first airing March 2, and another scheduled for March 16 — while the role of Ezra Boyle remains central to ongoing political and criminal storylines in Port Charles. Cosgrove is expected back once travel and scheduling allow.
Where Ezra’s Story Is Headed
In General Hospital’s current narrative, Ezra has been tangled in relationships with Mayor Laura Collins, as well as tensions involving Jenz Sidwell and other Port Charles power players. The recast ensures his character’s arc continues uninterrupted while viewers get a slightly different face in the role for a short time.
