The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) was drugged by Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk). Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) orchestrated a twisted kidnapping to use as leverage against Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).
Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) thought her husband was in danger after learning that he had been kidnapped by the Moustache. But she lost all reason after seeing Jack and Patty in a compromising position on the yacht, which was an arguable weak point in the plot.
Viewers had to wonder why Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) didn’t recognize Victor’s dirty fingerprints on the scene he, Diane, and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) encountered. But the plot needed to be pushed, with another outcome, this one good, resulting.
Victor Newman Loses One More Time
A storyline where the anti-hero lead of the show loses multiple times is increasingly intriguing. So, even considering any questionable plot directions, this long tale is compelling.
Victor lost his company, but he retained his mean streak and ability to fund an elaborate trap. Jack was abducted and put on a yacht in Lake Michigan. He was stunned to learn that one of his ex-wives, the notorious Patty, was also on board.
Patty didn’t seem to realize that she was being used by Victor as well. Her purpose was to detain Jack indefinitely so he could be traded to Phyllis for the return of Newman Enterprises, lock, stock, and soapy barrel.
But Billy’s tip led to him, Diane, and Kyle locating Jack and, stunningly, Patty. That meant Victor’s leverage over Phyllis was stolen, just like his company recently was.
Jack Abbott’s Words Won’t Do
A nicely filmed sequence had Walters’ character appear to slap Bergman’s fuzzy alter ego hard across the face. Viewers didn’t see the impact, as Bergman turned his head and the sound of Diane’s hand whacking Jack’s left cheek with intensity.
Diane was furious, not recognizing that her husband was still woozy after Patty’s sleight-of-hand caused his liquor to be spiked. Haiduk’s wicked persona got what she’d desired for years, which was her payoff.
Telling Diane that they needed to talk whiplashed into his wife telling him he was going to listen. A teased split will soon follow.
Diane Jenkins Abbott Needs Time And Space
Erasing the image of Jack and Patty in the cabin won’t ever be erased. That was part of Victor’s planning as well.
Devoted viewers recall that Victor has long loathed his ex-wife, Diane, and that he often referred to her, while in her presence, by including her last name, Jenkins. Her reunion with Jack in recent years was a pairing Victor was naturally interested in attacking.
The opportunity to use the Abbotts as weapons in an intense game of chess was too enticing for Victor to pass up. Diane knows Victor better than anyone except his family and Jack. So, in time, she should realize Jack was Victor’s main victim, seek to reconcile, and consider how the Abbotts should respond to Victor.
