The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) knocked Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) unconscious but didn’t kill him.
Viewers were left to wonder how hard this man’s head is and how many of his nine lives he’s used since they first saw him in the mid-1990s.
Matt has been an infamous figure on this show since the debut of the Sharon Collins (now Sharon Newman and played by Sharon Case) character in 1994.
That was the same year that Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) son was SORAS’d (soap opera rapid aging syndrome).
Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) obsession with Matt has ramped up significantly because he’s hooked on pills that Howarth’s character provided. The addiction storyline is seeing Morrow deliver some of his best performances in many years.
Joshua Morrow Is Killing It
Kudos to the writing staff for crafting a believable storyline. His use of the illicit drug that Matt and his goons provided at the outset created Nick’s addiction.
Morrow’s frazzled, sweaty appearance includes his nuanced efforts to make Nick project attempted normalcy has been quite simply terrific.
The actor has been an underrated performer for varied reasons, with five Daytime Emmy nominations on his resume but no wins.
Here’s hoping that Morrow submits his name for nomination regarding this current storyline. His effort is first-rate and proves that talent can be taken for granted in daytime, with a standout story providing an opportunity to shine a well-earned spotlight.
Matt Clark Avoids Being Killed Again
Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun) hit her husband so hard on the head that it knocked him down. Then, she aimed and bashed him even harder a few more times on a stark night in the Las Vegas, Nevada, desert.
How Matt didn’t perish on impact is a good question. But he’s a resilient guy and seemingly can survive anything, or at least that’s the impression that’s purposely being portrayed.

It feels like Matt’s destiny is to die a horrible death, with all that’s transpired since Howarth debuted as the latest recast of this character being the setup. To see Phyllis knock him out with a metal water bottle and him still survive furthers this suggestion.
Patty Williams Is Savior And Sinner
Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) believes that she and Matt are kindred spirits. She channeled the woo-woo when offering that line and continues to live her own cat-like nine lives as well, with devoted viewers recalling the dead cat Patty had in years past.
Matt doesn’t know who he is, but he has allowed himself to be helped by two people who are sworn enemies of the Newmans. While he does have amnesia, the inner lout continues to guide him toward badness.
A telegraphed endgame has Patty and Matt first uniting and then wiping each other off the face of the earth. Ending Matt’s reign dramatically would be riveting, but if both villains are wiped out, possibly by each other, then a storyline of the ages will be told on Y&R.
