General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal thirteen Port Charles transplants from Genoa City, in other words the actors were on the CBS soap The Young and The Restless first.
There are three currently on Y&R who were on GH first, but right now we’re going to talk about those who came from Y&R.
Anthony Geary: Luke Spencer
The late Anthony Geary portrayed David Lockhart on Bright Promise from 1971 to 1972. In 1973, during the inaugural year of The Young and The Restless, he took on the role of the villainous George Curtis, who assaulted the heroine Chris Brooks (Trish Stewart).
Then, in 1978, he embarked on his remarkable journey as Luke Spencer on GH, the antihero who captured Laura Webber Baldwin’s (Genie Francis) heart and thwarted the Cassadine clan’s weather machine from plunging the world into a deep freeze.
Geary portrayed Luke intermittently until his retirement in 2015. He amassed an impressive total of eight Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Scott Reeves: Steven Lars Webber
Following a brief appearance on Days of Our Lives as Jake Hogansen, Reeves enjoyed a decade-long run from 1991 to 2001 as the charming Ryan McNeil.
His character met a tragic end due to a gunshot wound inflicted by his unstable ex, Tricia Dennison (played by Sabryn Genet). In 2009, the actor made his return to daytime television, stepping into the role of Steven Lars Webber.
Steve is the son of Heather Webber (most recently portrayed by Alley Mills) and Jeff Webber (most recently played by William R. Moses), as well as the half-brother of Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst). Although he was written out in 2013, he made a surprise appearance in 2024.
Rick Hearst: Ric Lansing
Hearst made his debut on Y&R in 2000, stepping into the role of the villainous Matt Clark after previously portraying two characters in other soap operas (Scotty Banning on Days of Our Lives and Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light).
He also brought home a Daytime Emmy for his performance as Alan-Michael.
In 2001, it appeared that Matt was killed off, but Hearst quickly found new opportunities: in 2002, he joined GH as Ric Lansing, a vengeful lawyer who turned out to be Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) half-brother.
Hearst earned two additional Daytime Emmys for Supporting Actor before departing the show in 2009, only to return from 2014 to 2016 and again in 2024, with his comeback still thriving.
Meanwhile, GH’s former Franco Baldwin, Roger Howarth, has taken on the role of Matt Clark.
Emme Rylan: Lulu Spencer
Following her memorable stint on Guiding Light, where she portrayed the character Lizzie Spaulding, Rylan was cast in 2010 on The Young and the Restless as Abby Newman, the daughter of Victor Newman, played by Eric Braeden, and Ashley Abbott, portrayed by Eileen Davidson.
Rylan brought Abby to life until 2013, when she received an enticing offer from General Hospital that she simply couldn’t turn down: the opportunity to step into the shoes of Luke and Laura’s daughter, a role that had recently become available after Julie Marie Berman’s departure. Rylan continued to captivate audiences in Port Charles until 2020.
Maura West: Ava Jerome
West had already earned a Daytime Emmy for her portrayal of Carly Tenney Snyder on the CBS soap As the World Turns.
After the show was canceled in 2010, she was quickly recruited by the Young and The Restless to take on the role of a recast Diane Jenkins. West remained in Genoa City from 2010 to 2011.
In 2013, General Hospital reached out to her with an opportunity to play her next iconic character. Fans now know her as Ava Jerome and the role would also earn her another Emmy award.
Michelle Stafford: Nina Reeves
In 2013, the talented Daytime Emmy winner Michelle Stafford bid farewell to her role on The Young and the Restless, where she had been captivating audiences as Phyllis Summers since 1994.
The very next year, she made a bold move by joining General Hospital, stepping into the shoes of Nina Reeves, a character who had been in a long-term coma and was the wife of Silas Clay, portrayed by Michael Easton.
After an impressive five-year run, Stafford departed from GH, only to be enticed back to The Young and the Restless, where she has resumed her iconic role as Phyllis.
Her return has not only delighted fans but also earned her another Emmy award in 2024, solidifying her status in the daytime drama world.
Billy Miller: Jason Morgan And Drew Cain
In 2014, GH made the bold choice to recast Jason Morgan, two years after Steve Burton stepped away from the role, trading his iconic black T-shirt and leather jacket for a new opportunity at Y&R as Dylan McAvoy.
The role was handed to the immensely popular Y&R veteran, Miller, who had previously earned three Daytime Emmys for his performance as Billy Abbott.
He portrayed Jason until 2017, when Burton made his comeback to reclaim the character, revealing that Miller’s character was actually Jason’s secret twin, Drew Cain.
Miller departed from the show in 2019 and tragically passed away in 2023. Around the same period Billy took over Jason Morgan’s role, Jason Thompson, known for his role as Patrick Drake on General Hospital, took over the character of Billy Abbott.
Hayley Erin: Kiki Jerome
Erin made her first appearance on Y&R in 2008 as Abby Newman, a role she held until 2010 when Emme Rylan stepped in. In 2015, she was cast by GH to take over the role of Kiki Jerome after Kristen Alderson left, and in 2019, she won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress for her performance.
Unfortunately, that same year, Kiki was killed off, marking the end of Erin’s time on the show. However, in 2023, Y&R brought her back for a completely different role as Claire Newman, Abby’s niece!
Elizabeth Hendrickson: Margaux Dawson
In 2008, Hendrickson became part of the Y&R cast, taking on the role of Chloe Mitchell after portraying twins Frankie and Maggie Stone on All My Children.
By 2017, Chloe was written off the show, and in 2018, Hendrickson made her way to Port Charles as Margaux Dawson, a prosecutor intent on bringing Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to justice.
General Hospital tested her chemistry with Billy Miller, given that their characters from Y&R were nearly a supercouple.
Her stint on GH concluded in 2019, after which she quickly returned to Genoa City. Currently, her Y&R character is on recurring.
Cynthia Watros And Chris McKenna: Nina Reeves And Jack Brennan
Watros, who won a Daytime Emmy for her portrayal of Annie Dutton on Guiding Light, joined Y&R as Kelly Andrews in 2013 and left in 2014.
After Michelle Stafford stepped down from the role of Nina in 2019, the show brought Watros in to take over as the quirky and ethically flexible magazine editor.
McKenna earned his first soap credit at the age of 12, portraying Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live from 1990 to 1993.
He made his return to daytime television as the murderous cop Mark Harding on Y&R from 2014 to 2015. In 2025, GH approached McKenna to assume the recast role of WSB executive Jack Brennan.
Rory Gibson And Daniel Goddard: Michael Corinthos And Henry Dalton
Chad Duell’s announcement in 2024 about his departure from GH as Michael Corinthos, after nearly 15 years portraying Carly and Sonny’s son, sent ripples through the fan community.
GH chose Gibson as his replacement, who had previously played Noah Newman on Y&R from 2021 to 2023. He made his first appearance in 2025 and quickly established himself in the role.
From 2007 to 2019, Goddard was a prominent character on Y&R as Cane Ashby, the son of Genevieve and Colin Atkinson, roles brought to life by GH icons Genie Francis (Laura Collins) and Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio).
In 2025, the actor joined GH as the dubious Professor Henry Dalton, who ultimately met a grim fate, with his body discovered stuffed in Laura’s car.
