The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers indicate Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) are besotted with each other at the moment. Their status as a couple is stunning given their backgrounds full of thievery, mayhem and deception. They’re like two moths to a flame but how long will it be before they combust in mutual immolation?

Phyllis & Matt’s Relationship
Matt and Phyllis are self-destructive people. He is in awe of her beauty and the fact that she tolerates him. She loves the attention she is getting from Matt since she is a town pariah.
Right now they are enjoying their new adventure but we suspect the weeds will soon start growing in their garden.
Matt has no job and Phyllis is high maintenance—footing the bill all the time will start to grate on her and Red’s temper tantrums could scare Matt who’s trying to carve out a low key life.
Are Matt & Phyllis Good For Each Other?
Matt is pushing back against the people who don’t like him and it’s hard to believe this lollipop version of him. Phyllis also has a way of throwing people under the bus.
In the August 5 episode, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) told Matt that Phyllis could turn on him and that seemed like a big hint about the future.
If Phyllis betrays Matt how do you think he would handle it? She is his lifeline since he has nothing going on for himself at the moment. Unless Danny Romalotti Michael Graziadei) hires him at the nightclub and how ironic would that be?
Do Matt & Phyllis Have a Future?
There is a change in the Y&R writing team underway and new writers have a way of wanting to create their own material. It’s not farfetched to think that new characters could be introduced meaning fans see less of other longtime characters.
At this point Matt has no stable ties to anyone in GC and there are plenty of bad guys to write for including Adam Newman Mark Grossman) and Billy Abbott Jason Thompson).
What Happens to Phyllis and Matt?
To be clear, there is no indication that Matt and/or Phyllis are on the chopping block. But anything is possible in soapland, particularly with new writers in charge.
