The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Marie Kirkland (Jade Harlow) has been introduced with a purpose.
Another film noir-like dream sequence meant that Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) descent had likely reached its bottom. But what comes next with this new character?
Marie is a junkie who needed a fix. She didn’t pound on Nick’s door purely out of concern. No, that happened because Kirkland’s character was hoping to score some of Nick’s dirty pills.
This storyline has allowed Morrow to offer an extended performance that’s different than what fans have seen him do before. In modern times, actors determine whether to submit their names for Daytime Emmy nominations, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this longstanding cast member does so. He deserves the recognition.
Joshua Morrow’s Long Run In Genoa City
Morrow became the SORAS’d (soap opera rapid aging syndrome) edition of Nicholas during a period when this character had only been presented as a young boy. He, along with Sharon Case (Sharon Newman), joined the cast in 1994.
He was a five-time Daytime Emmy nominee every year from 1996 through 2000. It’s hard to imagine that more than a quarter-century has passed since he’s been in contention for a statue.

It would seem that a hard-working actor in the arguably hardest genre of the business hasn’t yet earned a statue. But maybe this drug abuse storyline and Morrow’s exceptional performance in it will help him realize the prize.
Marie Kirkland Needs Her Fix
One druggie wanting to share with a fellow user is bad news. Rather than just overdose, Nick could go down this time.
Devoted viewers recall when Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) was hitting the bottle hard. He happened upon Rose Turner (Leslie Stevens), who the then-Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan) believed was her biological mother.
Rose drank herself to death in the hotel room she and Neil shared one night when they were on a shared bender. He didn’t know Rose died and left, later learning what happened.
The above sequence sent Hilary on a quest for haron and Nick remarry to gain a sense of hope.
Cassie’s demise led directly to Nick’s straying with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and his divorce from Sharon. They’ve never remarried since, proving to be one of the only more popular couples who only realized their nuptials once.
Maybe this hard tale is leading to their reunion after Nick uses his free will to break the hold that drugs have on his mind and heart. Whether Marie proves to be part of that development will soon be seen now that she’s a player in GC.
